Michigan Radio establishes Mid-Michigan news bureau

As part of the station’s ongoing efforts to cover news across the state, Michigan Radio has established a new mid-Michigan news bureau. Based in Jackson, Reporter Steve Carmody will be covering stories in that city, as well as Lansing, Battle Creek and other mid-Michigan communities.

News Director Vincent Duffy notes, “We’ve long had daily coverage of Southeast and Western Michigan from our bureaus in Detroit and Grand Rapids, but there are many equally important stories taking place in mid-Michigan that are of interest to our audience. Our hope is that this bureau will assist us in covering  important Michigan issues and events that take place in the cities of Lansing, Jackson and Battle Creek and their surrounding communities.”

Michigan Radio now has reporters based full-time in Detroit, Ann Arbor, mid-Michigan and West Michigan. The station also covers the state capitol through a partnership with the Michigan Public Radio Network.

A resident of Jackson, mid-Michigan reporter Steve Carmody has been with Michigan Radio since 2005. During his two and a half decades in broadcasting, he has worked at public radio and television stations in Florida, Oklahoma and Kentucky, as well as in commercial broadcasting. During his tenure in Oklahoma, he covered the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, and was one of the first reporters on the scene following the bomb attack. His accomplishments include accolades from the Associated Press and Radio and Television News Directors Association.

Steve is Michigan Public's Marketing Director. His job involves coordinating the station’s marketing, communication and public relations efforts, special events, car donation program and community & media partnerships.
