The prosecuting attorney for St. Joseph County has been charged with drunken driving and having open intoxicants in his vehicle, says Attorney General Dana Nessel.

This comes after an incident in May where the prosecutor John McDonough allegedly crossed the center line, veered off the road, and crashed into a fence.

McDonough’s attorney, Michael Hills, says that he has been released from the hospital and is starting physical therapy for his injuries. According to Hills, McDonough remains on sick leave from work.

Hills could not provide further comment since the case is still in early stages.

McDonough's pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for July 24.
