Democrats representing Michigan in Congress lining up to support Iran nuclear deal
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow will support an international deal to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. On Monday, Congresswomen Debbie Dingell and Brenda Lawrence announced they’ll do the same.
The agreement gives international inspectors a lot more access to monitor Iran’s nuclear activities. In exchange, countries would lift economic sanctions to help Iran’s economy.
Critics say Iran can’t be trusted. They worry the deal will actually make it easier for Iran to become a nuclear-armed state.
Stabenow issued a statement Monday saying she’ll support the deal despite several reservations.
“For me, the decision comes down to this: without this international agreement, Iran will have enough nuclear material for a weapon in three months. With this agreement, and the international coalition committed to it, we have the opportunity to stop Iran from ever getting a nuclear weapon, certainly for at least 25 years.”
