New Michigan Radio podcast explores how to survive “otherness” with your humanity intact

Jodi Westrick

Michigan Radio's Bryce Huffman, creator and host of a new podcast Same Same Different, joined Stateside to talk about the launch of the podcast and what listeners can expect to gain from it.

Throughout the five episodes, Huffman and guests will explore issues around identity and how to survive “otherness,” which he describes as “that feeling that you’re different, and sometimes even less than, the people around you.”

Huffman's initial goal for Same Same Different was to broaden listener engagment in marginalized communities and also to share their stories.

“The show is really about these people coming from marginalized communities who really get hit the hardest by this: people of color, LGBTQ folks, people with disabilities, religious minorities, those sort identities,” said Huffman.

Huffman explains that whether or not you've experienced a personal situation of feeling like an outsider, "there's something inately human to that feeling."
