Without gallery openings or open studios, artists are heading online to connect with their audience. A new YouTube series from the Institute for the Humanities at the University of Michigan is giving them a platform to do just that.
The House Calls project offers virtual studio visits with Michigan artists. In-person studio visits are an important part of the art world. They offer a time for curators and collectors to have in-depth conversations with artists. Amanda Krugliak, arts curator at the Institute for the Humanities and co-creator of the project, said House Calls looks to replicate that experience in a way that feels both accessible and personal.

“These conversations made me understand better that what makes a place vibrant are these very human exchanges,” Krugliak said. “So it’s really that human interaction, that connection, that feeds universities and communities and keeps us all creating and thinking about futures.”
New House Calls episodes are available to stream Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. on the Institute for the Humanities website or on Youtube.
