Writer, humorist, and master of satire David Sedaris is coming to Kalamazoo for an evening of readings and recollections, Q&A, and book signing. One of the country’s preeminent humor writers, beloved for his personal essays and short stories, Sedaris writes in a style both autobiographical and self-deprecating, ruminating on family life, his middle-class, suburban upbringing, homosexuality, drug use, and obsessive behaviors. Several of his books have graced national bestseller lists, including Calypso, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and Happy-Go-Lucky.

David’s books will be on sale in the lobby before and after the show. David will sign books for patrons before and after the show.

Depressed and longing to get his life back on track, gay, Jewish, twenty-something Ethan returns to his Ann Arbor family home. When he takes a job as a “sober companion” to his recovering alcoholic neighbor, an unconventional friendship ensues. Full of Ann Arbor references, this charming and nostalgic play takes us all home. Directed by Brittany Connors.

You have been invited to join the Jellicle Cats at their once-a-year Jellicle Ball!  Cats like humans are complex beings made of extroverts and introverts, rule makers and rule breakers, relaxed and highly energized, playful and serious felines.  And at the Jellicle Ball they dance to celebrate all that makes them exceptional.  But there is also a dangerous game afoot.  One of them must be chosen by Old Deuteronomy to ascend to the Heavyside Layer, leave their life on this planet behind and be reborn into a new Jellicle life. Will it be the rascal Rum Tum Tugger, magical Mister Mistoffelees, troublemakers Mungojerry or Rumpleteazer, Jennyanydots or the enigmatic Grizabella? Each cat touts their talents in song and dance.

The Oakland County Business Association inc, a non-profit volunteer organization presents EXPO MICHIGAN for the 14th year to provide an opportunity for EVERYONE to exhibit and sell handcrafted items or present your small business in a community setting at local shopping malls.

Now through October 31, families are invited to enjoy the Story Walk Trail at Hidden Lake Gardens! This 0.4-mile trail, full of twists, turns, gentle hills, and scenic views, is located near the Picnic Area, just west of the conservatory. Along the way, little ones can follow signs that bring a delightful children’s story to life.
This year’s featured book is Sip, Pick, and Pack by Michigan author Polly Cheney. Through playful rhymes and vibrant illustrations, this educational tale introduces children to seeds, plants, and pollinators in a fun and engaging way. Copies of the book are available for purchase in the Daffodil Gift Shop.
