George Clinton's 'Mothership' will land at the Smithsonian

The 'Mothership' landeth.

Some serious learning is about to happen.

Parliament-Funkadelic's "Mothership" will land at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C.

Here's the Mothership landing in its heyday:

George Clinton Dr Funkenstein Mothership by oublierleracismeskyblog

Parliament-Funkadelic's lead man, George Clinton, says the Mothership is a replica of the original built in the 1990s. More from the Washington Post:

“I’m about to cry!” Parliament-Funkadelic frontman George Clinton said over the phone from his home in Tallahassee on Wednesday. “They’re taking the Mothership! They’re shipping it out! .?.?. But I’m glad it’s going to have a nice home there.” It isn’t the original Mothership. This 1,200-pound aluminum spacecraft was built in the mid-’90s — an indistinguishable replica, Clinton says, of the smoke-spewing stage prop he first introduced to slack-jawed funk fans in 1976.

Clinton has ties in Michigan where he was a staff song writer for Motown Records.

In the 1980s, Clinton was in Michigan as a "funky farmer" when we was making music.

Check out this story done by a German reporter in 1986:

George Clinton is funk music’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: About 50 miles out of Detroit a metamorphosis happens – Dr. Funkenstein, the workaholic who is busy in three Detroit studios at the same time, changes into George, the playful kid.

"I just have a cartoon brain," Clinton said.

Perhaps the Atomic Dog will be the next fixture at the Smithsonian.
