VAE celebrates Earth Day with a new choral drama that explores the literary relationship between music and nature. Evocative settings of Shakespeare, Wendell Berry, Mary Oliver, E. E. Cummings and many more. The program will include a vast and interconnected array of choral gems, with music from the late Renaissance to contemporary, including a world premiere by Stephen Rush. Reception to follow.
Join us for The Speakeasy, a high-energy, spirited fundraiser for the Detroit Historical Society and the official afterparty for the 2026 Society Ball. The centerpiece of the night is the music: Rhythm Society Orchestra, a 15-piece big band powerhouse that will turn the Guardian Building Promenade into a true Jazz Age dance hall. Pair that with Charleston and East Coast Swing lessons, complimentary valet, silent auction access, open bar, and late-night bites and coneys - and you've got a night to remember!
The JonBenét Game by Tori Keenan-ZeltNNPN Rolling World Premiere It’s not whether you win or lose…
When best friends Molly and Rae were 12, they secretly played JonBenét Ramsey at sleepovers. Twenty years later, in the wake of Molly's tragic death, Rae returns to her hometown school as a guidance counselor. But when Molly’s 12-year-old daughter, Hazel, knocks on Rae’s door, she and Rae slide back into the game, and the dark and liminal spaces of their unresolved grief. Directed by Carla Milarch.

8:00 PM • THE MOST DISTANT OBJECTTHE MOST DISTANT OBJECT brings together longtime friends Jason Harvey (Dianogah) and Tom Fitzgerald (C-Clamp). For live performances they expand the project with Jay Ryan and Kip McCabe of Dianogah. The result is patient, detailed instrumental post rock, carefully constructed and expansive, music that builds slowly, opens up, and pulls the room into its orbit.
9:00 PM • VIA FERRATAVIA FERRATA is the Kalamazoo duo of Jimbo Bruce (Blood at Ease, Witches Wedding, Persian Rugg) and Gordie Jennings (Waiting, NODROGOLAJ). Working with synth, drums, and analog instruments, they build sound that moves between abrasive bursts and carefully constructed layers. Their live sets explore the emotional extremes of noise, rhythm, and texture, shifting between jarring intensity and intricate, evolving sound.
10:00 PM • OUTKalamazoo four-piece OUT features Chafe Hensley on guitar and vocals, TJ Larmee on bass and vocals, Mark Larmee on drums and keys, and Ike Turner on guitar and vocals. Their songs move with purpose, layered guitars, intertwined voices, and a rhythm section that keeps everything pushing forward. As they put it, their music is about “forward movement within rock realms.”
