Michiganders who are long overdue for a haircut can make an appointment beginning Monday.

Salons closed in March to try to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They re-opened in northern Michigan earlier this month.

Mike Sarafa is with Bloomfield Hills-based Alline Salon Group. It operates 81 salons throughout Michigan.

He says their salons will have social distancing measures in place and stricter cleaning procedures.

"We are doing cleaning throughout what we’re calling 'the customer journey.' So the outside door handle, the inside door handle, if they go back to the shampoo bowl that whole surface area is being wiped down in between customers. Every client will get a new cape."

Arafa expects pretty high customer demand.

"So we’ve been open in Ohio for several weeks already, and we’re up 30 or 40 percent. We would’ve been up more, but because we can’t have that many people in the salon at one time, so I think we’ll be busy but, the other thing we’re doing to help accommodate that is expanded hours."

In his shops, early morning hours will most likely be reserved for seniors, immune-compromised clients, and others who are vulnerable to the spread of COVID-19.

Both workers and customers are expected to wear masks.
