White House task force to release proposals for dealing with sexual assault on college campuses

A White House task force will release recommendations today for dealing with sexual assaults on college campuses. It’s an issue that has attracted a lot of attention at some Michigan colleges.

President Obama formed the ‘White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault’back in January and gave the panel 90 days to return a list of recommendations for dealing with the problem.

The New York Times reports that among the recommendations will be that university administrators conduct anonymous surveys of sexual assault cases every three years. The panel is also expected to recommend universities take steps to keep sexual assault reports confidential, in hopes that will encourage victims to come forward.

There has been a string of high-profile sexual assault cases at colleges and universities across the country.

For example, a federal probe is underway into how the University of Michigan handled an allegationagainst a U of M football player. The player was eventually expelled for violating the university’s sexual misconduct policy.
