Michigan House Representative Lynn Afendoulis announced on Thursday that she’s running for Congress.
The Republican Afendoulis is running for Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes the city of Grand Rapids and Ionia, Barry and Calhoun counties.
Afendoulis says one of her biggest priorities is fixing the country’s immigration crisis.
“We are a nation built of immigrants, I’m a product of that. When our laws are followed, America and the freedoms and our way of life are guaranteed to everyone,” Afendoulis said.
She didn’t give specifics on how to address the current issues with the country’s immigration system, but says she would need to go to the border and see it for herself before she could come up with a plan.
Afendoulis, who was elected to the state House in November 2018, is running for the seat currently held by fellow Republican Justin Amash.
“Representative Amash represents in a way that he thinks is right. I think I will do it very differently and I am ready to prove that,” she said.
Afendoulis says she also wants to shrink government in order to help businesses.
