A couple of brand new baseball teams will be calling northern Michigan home this summer.

The Great Lakes Resorters and the Northern Michigan Dune Bears will join the Traverse City Pit Spitters at Turtle Creek Stadium this year.

Mickey Graham is the Pit Spitters General Manager.

“There’s something about going to the ballpark on a good summer night – eating a hotdog, drinking a beverage – that makes life somewhat normal," Graham said. "And in these times that’s important for us to provide.”

He says they want to avoid travel during the pandemic, but still bring baseball to fans.

“Trying to put 35-40 guys on a bus with the current climate is probably not the socially responsible thing to be doing," Graham said. "So this plan eliminates travel for us. It allows us to have multiple games, especially with the limited capacities that we’re at.”

The regular season is 57 games long and starts on July 1. Only 500 tickets will be sold for each game.

Graham says the two new teams will only be around for this year.
