Michigan Radio Presents The Moth Mainstage in Kalamazoo

Michigan Radio will present a live performance of The Moth Mainstage in Kalamazoo on Wednesday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. After sold out performances in Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor last year, The Moth Mainstage will return to Michigan with a line-up of writers, performers, and other unique national and Michigan storytellers, each with a ten-minute story to tell live without notes. The theme for this year’s Moth Mainstage show will be “Between Worlds.”

The Moth Mainstage features stories by luminaries in the arts and sciences, newsmakers and news breakers, and everyday heroes. Each show features five storytellers who develop and shape their stories with The Moth's directors. Beyond a mere theatrical experience, The Moth is an ever-growing community where entertainment, enlightenment and festivity merge. This will be the first time the acclaimed storytelling organization has hosted a performance in Kalamazoo.

“The Moth Mainstage: Between Worlds” show will be held at The State Theatre, 404 S. Burdick St. in  Kalamazoo, Michigan on Wednesday, May 22 at 7:30 pm. Ticket prices are $30 (Balcony), $35 (Main floor/Mezzanine), and $65 (Gold Circle). Gold Circle tickets include an invitation to an exclusive post-show party with the Moth storytellers. Tickets go on sale on Monday, March 18 at 9:00 a.m. Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster online at ticketmaster.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000, and at the Kalamazoo State Theatre Box Office.

The Moth is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling, and a recipient of a 2012 John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation MacArthur Award for Creative & Effective Institutions (MACEI). Through its ongoing programs, The Moth has presented more than three thousand stories, told live and without notes, to standing-room-only crowds worldwide. The Moth currently presents open-mic storytelling competitions (called StorySlams) each month in cities across the nation, including Ann Arbor, Detroit and Chicago.

The Moth podcast is downloaded more than 15 million times a year, and the Peabody Award-winning The Moth Radio Hour airs weekly on radio stations nationwide. The Moth Radio Hour can be heard on Michigan Radio each Saturday at 12:00 noon and 8:00 pm.
