Enjoy the stately drama of Russian music with powerhouse composers like Glinka, Tchaikovsky, and more. Glinka’s Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla is an energetic, boisterous show-opener reminiscent of Rossini’s great opera works. William C. Byrd Competition Winner Antono Yost will perform Mussorgsky’s song cycle Detskaya (The Nursery) detailing scenes from a childhood. The program concludes with Tchaikovsky’s dramatic and stunning Symphony No. 5, leaving listeners to ponder mankind’s struggle with destiny.
