A new chapter in Michigan State University history begins Thursday with the arrival of President Dr. Samuel Stanley Jr.

Stanley was unanimously chosen to be MSU’s next president by the Board of Trustees on May 28th. He’s been president at Stony Brook University in New York since 2009.

During his first few weeks on campus, Stanley's schedule will include introductory meetings with staff, faculty and students. He’ll also spend time with sexual assault survivors, a priority he mentioned at that May Trustees meeting.

“I want to meet with the survivors and their families, listen to their voices and their thoughts, and learn from them.”

Stanley said, “What happened at MSU will not be forgotten. Instead, it will drive us every day to work together, to build a campus culture of transparency, awareness, sensitivity, respect, and prevention…a safe campus for all. This is going to be key to all of our initiatives.”

Stanley is the 21st president in MSU history.
