A Michigan lawmaker is defending the decision to shut down the state legislature again today as the state continues to dig out from Wednesday’s storm.
The snowstorm that battered many parts of Michigan prompted lawmakers to cancel legislative sessions and committee meetings again on Thursday.
State Senator Rick Jones defends the decision. He says it’s in the best interest of the public.
"I want to make sure that everyone knows the Senate leadership decided to stop committee hearings for Wednesday and Thursday to safeguard all of the citizens that need to attend those hearings," Jones says. "The decision was bipartisan."
Jones says he and his staff are back in their Lansing office today, that other lawmakers are working in Lansing or from their home districts, and that Senate business is being handled.
