A Michigan congresswoman is hoping to speed up clean-up of PFAS contamination in a Defense Department spending bill.
U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Dearborn) is proposing an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. It would call for a clean-up of contaminated PFAS sites and limit their spread.
“We’re hopeful that the Senate will include it in the conference committee report ... and that would actually make this the law,” says Dingell.
The U.S. House already approved the PFAS Action Act that Dingell introduced. But the bill is stuck in the U.S. Senate. Congressional Democrats from Michigan all voted for the bill as did Republican congressmen Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph) and Bill Huizenga (R-Zeeland).
The Michigan PFAS Action Response Team has so far identified 96 sites, including the former Wurtsmith Air Force base in Oscoda.
