American Public Media Ending Production of “Live from Here”

American Public Media announced Tuesday that they are ending production of Live from Here with Chris Thile.

“As a result of COVID-19, the current economic climate has pushed us to make some challenging decisions,” said Chandra Kavati, Vice President of Distribution and Underwriting at American Public Media.

“After much consideration American Public Media has made the difficult decision to end production and national distribution of Live from Here. We are grateful to the entire Live from Here team and Grammy award-winning host Chris Thile for their exemplary work over the last few years in reimagining this legacy radio variety show.”

Live from Here premiered in December 2017. The show replaced A Prairie Home Companion, which mandolinist-singer-songwriter Chris Thile started hosting in October 2016, following the retirement of  Garrison Keillor. A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor was a Saturday night staple of public radio stations since it first began in 1974.

Michigan Radio’s final broadcast of Live from Here will air on Saturday, June 27 at 6 p.m. with a repeat broadcast on Sunday, June 28 at 9 p.m. The station will announce a replacement for the show, along with some other changes to its weekend line-up, the week of June 22.

Steve is Michigan Public's Marketing Director. His job involves coordinating the station’s marketing, communication and public relations efforts, special events, car donation program and community & media partnerships.
