Michigan has slipped out of the top five net loss migration states in Allied Van Lines' annual Magnet States Report.
But just barely. Michigan is number six for 2015. The report tallies family outbound moves by Allied, a leading moving company, and inbound moves.
Allied says it moved nearly 2,o00 families out of the state this year, and moved 1,200 in to the state, for a net loss of 800 families.
Texas was again the top net gain state. Texas had a net relocation gain of 2,558 families. One reason, says the report, is Exxon-Mobile's headquarters relocation to that state, with many of its employees moving to Texas as well.
Virginia had the greatest net migration loss at 1,343 moves out of state.
Allied Van Lines Vice President Lesli Bertoli says many states with harsh winters, like Michigan, are losing population, partly due to retirees who wish to live somewhere warmer and sunnier. Crazy retirees, right?
