Michigan Public- Federal Funding

Throughout 2025, Michigan Public and public broadcasting stations around the country were staring down a dramatic loss of federal funding, money that had been supporting America's public broadcasting system since 1967. Protect My Public Media was created to provide a space for listeners to gather and voice their advocacy for their individual stations and the system at large.

Michigan Public's on-air campaign to generate solidarity and inform its listeners about congressional activity began in earnest in April and continued through August.

As you listen to this montage of spots, you can hear the ways in which the urgency and pace of Congress' defunding campaign grew. In the end, Congress did approve the rescission and the President signed it into law. Michigan Public immediately lost more than $500,000 in funding per year over two years, a total eclipsing a million dollars.

Defunded, but not defeated, Michigan Public's on-air campaign concludes with a series of spots that thanks listeners for raising their voices and assures them our mission of public service will continue into the future.
