Beacon Park is kicking off Earth Day celebrations with art displays and garden tours in its new Connected to All: Environment + People + Community event. The garden tour will educate visitors about the flowers, plants and trees at Beacon Park and guests are invited to plant their own bulbs on a first-come, first-served basis to keep Downtown Detroit beautiful, green and clean. Alongside the tour, the Detroit Fine Artists Breakfast Club, a group of local artists will share more than 40 unique art pieces with the public, hosting an exhibition themed around sustainability and environmentalism. The art pieces will be for sale.The event is free to attend. Families and children of all ages are welcome. Ed Ashcroft, lead landscaper at Beacon Park will guide guests through the garden tours. Pink Elephant Events will offer educational sessions throughout the weekend, teaching guests about recycling and composting. The Connected to All: Environment + People + Community art exhibit was executed and organized by Henry Harper and Nas Sorrell of Harper Galleries of Arts and Interiors. Earth Day programming is made possible on behalf of the Downtown Detroit Partnership and Beacon Park Foundation. Lumen Detroit will be open, featuring its spring menu and craft cocktails. The Beacon Park Garden Tour will take place Friday, April 22 - Sunday, April 24. April 22 will feature an opening ceremony starting at 1 p.m. with artists on-site.
