Event Details
Date: Sunday, March 3rd, 2024
Time: 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Location: Bharatiya Temple, 6850 N. Adams Rd, Troy, MI 48098

The World Sabbath teaches the importance of building a community based on justice, equality, respect, and peace, regardless of faith tradition. This year, we emphasize our impact on future generations, involving children, teenagers, and young adults in shaping a harmonious world.

A notable highlight of the event is the presentation of the 2024 PeaceMaker Award to Padma Kuppa, an esteemed engineer and former State legislator from Troy, Michigan. Kuppa's exceptional contributions to interfaith peace, including her role in co-founding the Troy-area Interfaith Group, exemplify the spirit of harmony and cooperation that the World Sabbath seeks to promote.

The World Sabbath ceremony will serve as the platform for a diverse display of religious traditions, with clergy from several faiths participating in the service. Musical performances will feature choirs, bands, dance groups, and chantings, each reflecting the cultural and traditional richness of the participating religions.

The program will commence with symbolic acts such as the blowing of the shofar by a Jewish youth and the chanting of the Muslim Call to Prayer. Additionally, prayers for world peace will be offered by youth representing Jain, Buddhist, Baha’i, Zoroastrian, Christian, Hindu, Native American, Sikh, Quaker, and Unitarian faith traditions.

One of the most cherished aspects of the World Sabbath is the involvement of children, who will proudly display banners adorned with their visions of world peace during the processional. These banners will later be transformed into Children of Peace Quilts, serving as enduring symbols of hope and unity.
The World Sabbath has grown exponentially over the years, highlighting the community's increasing commitment to interfaith dialogue and cooperation.
