HIS Dance Ensemble presents ROYAL

HIS Dance Ensemble presents ROYAL

Re-staged to delight a new audience! HIS Dance Ensemble will bring the story of bestselling author Beth Moore's book, “My Child, My Princess” to life.

On Saturday, March 11, 2023, HIS Dance Ensemble will present ROYAL, an original contemporary ballet, at the DeVos Center for Arts and Worship at Grand Rapids Christian High School.

A beautiful, yet discontent young princess sneaks out of the palace to explore the world outside the castle walls. Her rebellion puts her father in jeopardy and her own life begins to spin out of control. Will the princess return to her rightful place as a daughter of the king, or will she be lost for all eternity?

“With professional scenery and costuming, this insightful story of love and forgiveness, presented by our dancers, will resonate with children and grown-ups alike” Christina Perry, Co-Artistic Director.

ROYAL is being re-staged by Tassia Johnson, Christina Perry, Olga Smelik, and Sarah Walters, utilizing the choreography of Tassia Johnson and Hannah Sullivan. The HIS Dance Ensemble includes 54 pre-professional students ages 8-18 as well as 12 of our young dancers from the academy. They will be joined by special guest artist, HIS Dance Academy graduate, Elijah Berryhill.
Co Artistic Directors, Tassia Johnson and Christina Perry, are instructors at HIS Dance Academy. Tassia was a soloist with the acclaimed Dance Theatre of Harlem for twelve years and toured the world performing original works by many notable choreographers. Christina earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Dance Performance at Butler University's prestigious Jordan College of the Arts in Indianapolis, IN and has danced professionally in Chicago, IL. Their unique experiences combine to create a ballet with strong technique and creative choreography that will be enjoyed by all ages.

Through the support of our sponsors, HIS Dance Academy welcomes local non-profit social service organizations and their clients to join us for a performance of ROYAL. This year, we will invite over 200 guests to attend a performance at no charge. The goal of this program is to offer financially-challenged community members an opportunity to attend a live ballet performance.
