The TéMaTé Institute for Black Dance & Culture - Ritual: Rhythms of Life & Legacy
The TéMaTé Institute for Black Dance & Culture invites you to the 2025 Convening for Dance & Culture: Ritual: Rhythms of Life & Legacy, taking place October 18–19 in Detroit. This annual gathering is a two-day cultural immersion that weaves together workshops, lectures, and a signature concert performance. This year’s theme explores the human connection through movement, ritual, and environment, emphasizing how dance bridges the physical and the divine.
The convening features classes led by master instructors from across the African diaspora, community dialogue, and the culminating concert at the Detroit School of Arts. The concert will illuminate traditions passed down through generations, rituals of healing, celebration, and resilience, through dance, music, and storytelling. Attendees will also enjoy a curated vendor marketplace highlighting local artisans and cultural businesses.
Supported by the Gilbert Family Foundation, Ritual: Rhythms of Life & Legacy uplifts Detroit as a hub for cultural equity, artistic preservation, and Afro-diasporic expression. Whether you are an artist, student, educator, or community member, the Convening offers a unique opportunity to experience culture, tradition, and artistry in motion.
