Erin Shields’ Paradise Lost reinvents John Milton’s epic poem through a bold, contemporary lens. Satan, cast out of Heaven, seeks revenge by tempting humanity, setting the stage for a cosmic battle of free will versus divine power. Blending sharp wit, modern feminism, and classical mythology, Shields’ adaptation challenges traditional notions of good and evil while exploring oppression, rebellion, and knowledge. With rich language and a fresh perspective, this powerful play reimagines one of literature’s most profound stories, making it both deeply relevant and strikingly theatrical.

A ghost light is a single bulb left burning in a theater between performances, when the space is “dark.” A combination of safety, tradition, and superstition, the ghost light helps us avoid unseen obstacles in an unoccupied theater and keeps any artistic spirits who might reside there happy while the theater is unused. This season, as the Bower undergoes renovation and the Elgood remains dark to accommodate construction, Flint Rep’s Ghost Light Cabaret series will be keeping the lights on in our home venue. Join us on the first Wednesday of the month in the Elgood Lobby, transformed into an intimate club-style performance venue, for these one-night-only evenings of curated music, storytelling, and fun.

The “Schubertiade” was a concert invented during Franz Schubert’s lifetime by his friends, who would gather for long evenings to enjoy their favorite composer’s music. Join us for our season-closing Schubertiade exploring Schubert in three settings: his inimitable four-hand piano music, his virtuosic vein with a violin-and-piano showpiece, and his profound statements in the epic Trio in E-flat major, which took the genre to unparalleled levels of complexity and emotional intensity.
