Michigan medicalmarijuana patients are being cautioned to expect further product shortages in the new year.
The medical marijuana market has struggled with shortages in the past. The start of the recreationalretail market has exacerbated the issue.
To meet the demand of the adult-use market, state regulators allowed licensed recreational dispensaries to use up to 50% of products originally earmarked for the medical marijuana market.
“We are very concerned that it’s going to get much worse before it gets better,” says Robin Schneider, executive director of the Michigan Cannabis Industry Association. “It’s going to take time to grow enough product to fulfill the market. And I think that probably our inventory will become more depleted.”
State regulators insist they are committed to making sure there is enough medical marijuana to meet the need of Michigan patients.
