For the first time since the earliest days of the pandemic, Michigan reported no COVID-19 deaths on a single day on Sunday.
Since mid-March, not a day has gone by in Michigan without at least one death attributed to COVID-19.
But the official state tally of coronavirus cases on Sunday contained no new deaths.
Since March, state health officials have confirmed 5,972 deaths linked to COVID-19.
But while the number of deaths stood still for at least a day, the number of positive cases increased.
The state added another 343 confirmed positive cases. Michigan has seen an uptick in confirmed coronavirus cases in recent days.
The latest hotspot appears to be a strip club in metro Detroit.
On Sunday, the Wayne County Public Health Division announced 13 COVID-19 cases can be traced to a metro Detroit strip club.
Officials are asking anyone who visited or worked at the Playhouse Club between June 17 and July 1, or worked at or patronized the Romulus Checkers between June 27 and July 4, should contact the Wayne County Health Division at 734-727-7078.
“It is imperative all people who visited these two establishments during the exposure window call and cooperate with our communicable disease team so that we can understand the extent of the outbreak,” says Carol Austerberry, Wayne County Public Health Officer.
Across the state, local county health officials have been scrambling in recent weeks to track people who may have been exposed to the virus at various businesses that have reopened recently.
Overall, 65,876 Michiganders have tested positive for COVID-19.
Since March, 52,841 state residents have officially recovered, having survived more than 30 days since their original diagnosis.
