An Eaton County man is under arrest after allegedly phoning in a bomb threat to the Michigan State Capitol Thursday morning.

48-year-old Michael Varrone of Charlotte allegedly called the state Capitol building around 6:40 a.m.

Investigators claim the caller claimed people “needed to evacuate because the building was going to explode.”

No explosive device was found. The state Capitol building was closed for a few hours while state police troopers searched the building.

The bomb threat came a day after pro-Trump extremists overran the Capitol building in Washington D.C.

Following the bomb threat, the Michigan State Police said the building was closed “out of an abundance of caution.”
