Detroit is one of the nation’s hardest hit cities in the COVID-19 pandemic

Metro Detroit hospitals are quickly hitting capacity for COVID-19 patients as the city becomes one of the nations “hot spots” for the virus.

That much anticipated “surge” we’ve all been told to prepare for is already here, coming just two weeks after Michigan confirmed its first cases.

We’re going to hear what this looks like for hospitals in the city, and what this means for a major city that was already battling the impacts of poverty, racism, and a lack of healthcare access.

First, Michigan Radio reporter, Kate Wells tells us about first-hand stories she's hearing from healthcare workers on the frontlines right now. And, reporter Sarah Cwiek tells us about what we know and don't know about who is getting sick.

Stateside is produced daily by a dedicated group of producers and production assistants. Listen daily, on-air, at 3 and 8 p.m., or subscribe to the daily podcast wherever you like to listen.
