Governor faces lower approval numbers and a billboard

Courtesy: Michigan Democrats

Yesterday afternoon, Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Mark Brewer announced a new billboard which they're hoping may capitalize on lower approval numbers for Governor Rick Snyder.

The strategically placed billboard is on I-96 – between Lansing and Brighton. Brewer estimates 160,000 commuters every week will see the billboard including (if he’s looking) the governor himself.

From the Dem’s press release:

“Democratic groups from across the state, as well as hundreds of individuals — including many new online donors to the Michigan Democratic Party — chipped in a little to make a big statement to Rick Snyder,” said Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer.

So what does Michigan think of Governor Snyder?

EPIC MRA, a survey research firm in Lansing, polled 600 voters on February 13.

  • Total Favorable 42 percent
  • Total Unfavorable 46 percent
  • Undecided 12 percent

42 percent is the Governor's lowest 'favorable' rating in the EPIC MRA poll in the last year.

And for Michigan – are things generally headed in the right direction, or, have things pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track?

  • Right Direction 41 percent
  • Wrong track 46 percent
  • Undecided 13 percent

Yesterday Snyder's chief of staff was quoted on Mlive – possibly hinting at a 2nd term for the governor:

"Ours is an eight-year project," Dennis Muchmore said Wednesday at the Michigan Society of Association Executives 2013 Legislative & Public Policy Conference. "We're not here to win the polls at the end of the second year. We're here to fundamentally change the way the state operates and does business."
