Flint’s former city spokeswoman is joining a crowded field of candidates to fill a vacant state House seat.
Sheldon Neeley resigned from his State House 34th District seat, after winning this month'sFlint mayoral election.
Enter Candice Mushatt, who served as a spokeswoman for former Flint Mayor Karen Weaver. She was also a legislative aide to the man who replaced Weaver, current mayor Sheldon Neeley.
Mushatt is now a candidate to serve out the year remaining on Neeley’s state House term.
“You need someone who can step in there. Hit the ground running,” Mushatt told reporters outside Flint city hall Monday. “Because they already know the culture of Lansing and how it works.”
Mushatt joins more than a half-dozen candidates for a special election to fill Neeley’s old seat. Some of whom she knows quite well.
The field includes Mayor Neeley’s wife, Cynthia, and two Flint city council members, Monica Galloway and Santino Guerra.
Candidates must file by Tuesday. The primary is in January. The winner will be decided in March.
