Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she will release details soon on how to re-open parts of Michigan’s economy.
The governor says that should be done in a series of carefully monitored steps.
“But we have to be nimble enough to recognize where there’s been a growth of COVID-19, we pull back. Or, if there hasn’t been, where we take maybe the next cautious step forward.”
Whitmer was part of a live webstream event Tuesday sponsored by The Washington Post.
She says health experts are tracking the progress of infections in different parts of the state.
“So that we are really mindful of where the lowest risk is. We’ll try it out for a little while, watch the numbers, make sure that we’re able to meet health care needs in regions of our state, and then, perhaps, take the next step,” she said.
The governor says she’ll look first to businesses that don’t typically have close person-to-person contact, and where distancing and face-covering guidelines can be followed.
Whitmer says she’s also interested in ideas that were proposed by Republicans in the Legislature on re-opening the economy.
