The TSA has announced that U.S. air travelers without a REAL ID will face a $45 fee starting in February. The Department of Homeland Security says 94% of passengers are already compliant. -
The federal REAL ID Act of 2005 was passed in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and requires higher identification standards. -
Starting Oct. 1, 2020, travelers will need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or other accepted form of ID to pass through security.
