Semitrucks roar down Lonyo at all hours, barreling between I-94 and a sprawling complex of truck yards that sandwich this neighborhood. The trucks could take a slightly longer route to the freeway but they don’t because they don’t have to.

Michigan legislation heard in a state House committee Tuesday would generally ban semi-trucks from driving in the left-most lane of a three-or more lane freeway.That’s a shift from current law, which requires large vehicles to use the two right lanes instead of outright banning them from that left lane.

Michigan is part of an effort to build hydrogen infrastructure in the Midwest. The Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen has received $22 million from the Department of Energy to plan several projects.
