A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor Comes to Ann Arbor

Michigan Radio and the Ann Arbor Summer Festival will welcome America's favorite storyteller, Garrison Keillor, to Ann Arbor on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 5:45 p.m. for a special live performance of A Prairie Home Companion. The show will take place at Hill Auditorium on the campus of the University of Michigan, as part of that historic venue’s 100th anniversary celebration. The celebrated radio variety show regularly airs Saturdays at 6:00 PM on Michigan Radio, and is repeated at 12:00 PM on Sundays. Tickets for the June 1, 2013, live performance go on sale Monday, April 15, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. Tickets will be available through the Ann Arbor Summer Festival ticket office. Ticket prices will be $75, $65, $55, $45, $35 “Over the years, Hill Auditorium has been home to some of the world’s best performances,” says Steve Schram, Director of Broadcasting at Michigan Radio, "and we’re excited that Garrison Keillor is returning to Ann Arbor to help pay tribute to that great history.” "A Prairie Home Companion is a public radio gem." Schram adds, “and I'm delighted that fans throughout the region will be able to enjoy this local, live performance." The June 1, 2013, Ann Arbor performance of A Prairie Home Companion will feature live performances by special guests, along with comical skits by Keillor and the Royal Academy of Radio Actors; Tim Russell, Sue Scott, and sound effects man Mr. Fred Newman, and The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band. Keillor will weave local humor into the show and share his signature monologue, "The News from Lake Wobegon." A native Minnesotan, Garrison Keillor began working at Minnesota Public Radio in 1969. In the summer of 1974, he hosted the first live broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion, a program now heard weekly on over 580 public radio stations by over 4 million listeners. Keillor is also the author of 13 books and winner of numerous awards for his broadcasting and literary work.
