Emerge! Art Festival Opens October 18 100 Years Unbound – The Power of Aging
Experience the power of creative aging at the Emerge! Art Festival, a vibrant celebration of visual art, performance, and storytelling that proves creativity has no expiration date. Opening October 18 at the Ellen Kayrod Gallery inside Hannan Center located at 4750 Woodward Ave. in Detroit, the festival honors the artistry and resilience of older adults while bringing the community together through the universal language of art.
This year’s theme, “100 Years Unbound: The Power of Aging,” recognizes Hannan Center’s centennial year and underscores the strength, creativity, and influence of older adults who continue to shape and enrich metro Detroit.
The festival is a juried exhibition that features 175 works of art submitted by older adults, shining a light on both emerging and established artists. From painting and sculpture to spoken word and live performance, Emerge! demonstrates how the arts can enrich lives, strengthen communities, and challenge stereotypes about aging.
On opening day (Oct. 18, 1–7 p.m.), guests will enjoy an afternoon of celebration, complete with an awards presentation, live entertainment, food, an interactive art project, and artist remarks. The festival runs through January 14, 2026, offering the public multiple opportunities to be inspired by the creativity and contributions of metro Detroit’s older adult artists.
By weaving together art, culture, and community service, the Emerge! Art Festival highlights the enduring role of the arts in healthy aging, proving that creativity thrives at every age and that the power of aging is truly unbound.
