Germans to America Midwest, 1848-1900 with Scott Norrick

Discover the German Roots of the Midwest at MiGGS May Meeting
The Michigan Germanic Genealogical Society (MiGGS) invites the public to its May virtual meeting for an engaging and informative presentation by noted genealogist and historian Scott Norrick. Titled Germans to America Midwest, 1848–1900, the program will explore one of the most significant periods of German immigration to the United States.
The presentation will take place on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. It will look into the factors that led millions of Germans to leave their homeland between 1848 and 1900 and explain why so many chose to settle in the American Midwest.
Topics include German immigration trends, ports of departure and arrival, key areas of German settlement in the Midwest, cultural influences left by German immigrants, and top resources for researching German ancestry. A local example of a German settlement will also be featured, bringing historical context close to home.
This presentation is ideal for anyone interested in family history, immigration patterns, or the enduring impact of German culture in the Midwest. Whether you’re just starting your genealogical journey or deep into family research, you’ll find valuable insights and practical resources.
Join us and discover how the stories of German immigrants continue to shape our communities today.
All virtual meetings are free and open to the public.
