A new survey shows Michigan teachers are ready and willing to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
More than 22,000 educators responded to a recent survey from the Michigan Education Association.
The survey found that nearly 90 percent of teachers want to get the vaccine.
Doug Pratt is a spokesperson for the MEA.
He says, "We found less than 10 percent really did not want to get the vaccine or were unsure, which is far better than the public at large. So our members are listening to the science, and see the vaccine as a critical part of getting back to in-person learning across the state."
Among the respondents, half reported already receiving the first vaccine dose, nearly seven percent are scheduled to do so, and approximately six percent have received both doses.
Pratt says the majority of Michigan educators say they are still concerned about safety issues when it comes to in-person learning. But he says those numbers are down since November.
"There’s a little less intensity around it, and I think that’s due in no small part to the vaccine. But there’s still about a third of educators in the state who are waiting to be vaccinated, and we need to make sure that we’re doing everything we can to get educators vaccinated."
