Another major Michigan public university is requiring a COVID-19 vaccination as the fall semester is set to begin.
On Friday, Grand Valley State University officials announced that GVSU faculty, staff and students have until September 30 to get the shot.
Greg Sanial, GVSU’s Vice President for Finance and Administration, says about 80% of faculty and staff and roughly 60% of students have already been vaccinated.
The university will also be offering vaccination clinics later this month.
Sanial says university officials are still assessing consequences for remaining unvaccinated, though he hopes that will “become a non-issue.”
“In the end, if they’re absolutely refusing to get vaccinated, we would expect them to seek their education elsewhere or employment elsewhere,” Sanial told reporters Friday.
Grand Valley joins Albion College, Michigan State University, Wayne State University and the University of Michigan in requiring vaccinations.
Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University are not requiring students get the COVID-19 vaccine this fall.
