Bringing people together through the age-old practice of kite flying: That is the goal of the Detroit Kite Festival, happening this Sunday on Belle Isle.
Festival organizers said it’ll be easy to find. Just look for all the kites in the sky.
The festival will include how-to-make-a-kite workshops, performers, a professional kite flying team, and more.
Listen to the audio postcard with festival organizers Margo Dalal and Matt Tait above to hear just how ubiquitous kite flying seems to be, and how it’s used as a tool for communities.
You’ll also hear about the “sense of freedom” that comes from holding onto something that’s a hundred feet in the air.
