Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss called her re-election campaign a success before all the votes were even in.

Bliss and her campaign team saw how far ahead she was when the first election results came in, and they felt her 10,000 vote lead was too big to overcome.

Bliss says she has a lot of things she wants to get done in her next term.

“I hope that over the next two years, we can set up a structure to have a promise zone where youth graduating out of our high schools will have an opportunity to go to college and have support for that,” Bliss says.

Bliss says she also hopes to improve community-police relations and get more affordable housing in the city.

“We know that we have a lot of work to do and I’m eager to continue that work and work hard for all the Grand Rapidians that voted for me,” she says.

Bliss says the city is moving in the right direction, and she says it will continue to do so because the city’s residents are engaged.

Daniel Schutte, Mayor Bliss’ challenger during this election, won just 12% of the vote before Bliss and her team announced a victory.
