People in Huntington Woods are upset about a new city ordinance aimed at making it harder to cut down trees.
The ordinance requires property owners to get a permit and pay a hefty fee to remove a tree, even on residential property.
Allison Iversen is leading a campaign to repeal the ordinance. She says she appreciates the city commission’s intention to protect city trees and property values, "but not by creating this 21-page, 8,000 word ordinance that makes it extremely difficult for someone to cut a tree down in their own backyard."
City officials are reviewing the wording of the repeal petition.
The issue may end up on the November ballot.
