NPR’s 1A to takeover Michigan Radio’s Stateside Tuesday

The speculation about Governor Whitmer as a potential vice presidential candidate has been put to rest, but Michigan is still in the national political spotlight for the November election.  Tuesday August 18, Jenn White, host of NPR’s national 1A program, will be taking over Michigan Radio’s Stateside show to talk with Michigan listeners about the state’s battleground status in the presidential election.

The show will air on Michigan Radio and other public radio stations across the state.

The public is invited to submit questions about the role Michigan will play in this November’s election in advance of the live show. They can send those to: Stateside@michiganradio.org; leave a voicemail message by calling 734-764-7840; or fill in the form below.

1A is NPR’s daily, live show that explores important issues such as policy, politics, technology, and what connects us across the fissures that divide the country. The 1A takeover of Stateside is part of the 1A Across America initiative, a two-year collaboration to incorporate more local and regional viewpoints into the national conversation. 1A’s production team is working with Michigan Radio and five other public media stations across the country deeply rooted in their communities to bring each region’s underreported issues and concerns to 1A’s national audience.

This special 1A takeover of Stateside show can be heard on Michigan Radio on Tuesday, August 18 from 3 – 4 PM, with a repeat broadcast from 9 - 10 PM. In addition to Michigan Radio’s broadcast signals serving Detroit, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids and elsewhere across southern Michigan, the show can also be heard in Northern Michigan on Interlochen Public Radio (91.5 FM, Traverse City; 90.1 FM, Harbor Springs/Petoskey; and 89.7 FM, Manistee/Ludington), and in the Upper Peninsula on WNMU-FM (90.1 FM, Marquette) and WGGL-FM (91.1 FM, Houghton).

With conversations about what matters in Michigan, Stateside is the state’s public radio talk show, covering a wide range of Michigan news and policy issues—as well as culture and lifestyle stories. Based in Ann Arbor, Stateside is produced by Michigan Radio and hosted by award-winning journalist April Baer.

1A Across America is funded through a grant from The Corporation for Public Broadcasting. CPB is a private, nonprofit corporation created by Congress in 1967 that is the steward of the federal government’s investment in public broadcasting. CPB is also the largest single source of funding for research, technology, and program development for public radio, television and related online services.
