Awareness of human trafficking breaking into the business world

FLICKR USER FLORIAN BUGIEL https://flic.kr/p/mvyj4a
Human trafficking reports in the U.S. are on the rise.

Human trafficking is a growing problem in our state. Reported cases of human trafficking in Michigan were up 16% in 2015 from the year before.

And that's only counting the reported cases. Many more go unreported.

The Detroit International Human Trafficking Summit is happening June 9 in Detroit. One of the important goals is training companies to better identify when trafficking might occur.

Gary Lalicki joined Stateside today to teach us a bit about human trafficking for business.

GUEST Gary Lalicki is the executive vice president of quality, training and product design for Health Management Systems of America, a Detroit-based employment assistance provider.

Stateside is produced daily by a dedicated group of producers and production assistants. Listen daily, on-air, at 3 and 8 p.m., or subscribe to the daily podcast wherever you like to listen.
