The state of Michigan is being sued over COVID-19 testing regulations by a group advocating for high school athletes.

Michigan has seen a sharp increase in coronavirus cases in recent weeks, which state officials have linked, in part, to youth sports.

The group, Let Them Play, filed a lawsuit Thursday against the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Speaking to supporters on Facebook, spokeswoman Jayme Ansel McElvany explained the purpose of the lawsuit.

“Nobody in here wants to throw caution to the wind and say ‘the heck with it,’” says McElvany, “What we do want is our athletes to  be treated fairly.”

The suit claims the coronavirus testing rules and testing procedures violate due process rights.

The State health department declined comment on the lawsuit.
