The Michigan State Police raided the offices of Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith Wednesday.

A State Police spokesman confirmed that investigators executed a search warrant at Smith’s office.

The state Attorney General’s office is investigating Smith’s alleged misuse of asset forfeiture funds.

Smith reportedly used some money from those funds inappropriately, including on trips, parties and donations to non-law enforcement organizations.

Smith has said there’s been a “misunderstanding” of those expenditures, and pledged to cooperate with investigators.

The Macomb County Commission has also ordered a forensic audit of the forfeiture funds.
