Vice President Mike Pence was in Lansing Tuesday to talk about farming. Pence and U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue addressed members of the Michigan Farm Bureau at the agency’s annual legislative conference.
Pence said under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA, American farmers will have more market access.
“And we’re going to sell $2.2 billion more in agriculture exports to Canada and Mexico alone. That includes $300 million in dairy exports in just the first few years," Pence said. "USMCA is a win for agriculture.”
He also mentioned President Trump’s promise to repeal two federal regulations for every new rule put on the books.
“But we actually haven’t done that; I’ve got to be honest with you," Pence said. "We’ve actually repealed eight federal regulations for every new federal rule.”
Pence also touted the Trump administration’s repeal of the Waters Of The U.S. rule, an Obama-era provision that he says placed unnecessary federal restrictions on many American waterways.
Environmentalists say the repeal will lead to widespread pollution of streams and wetlands.
