AAA predicts more than 3.6 million Michiganders will be traveling during the holidays. That’s the highest number since AAA starting making its annual Christmastravel projections in 2000.
AAA spokeswoman Adrienne Woodland says travelers should be sure to pack their patience.
“The holidays can be a stressful time,” says Woodland, “AAA encourages drivers to maintain a cool head and focus on reaching their destination safely.”
Woodland advises the estimated 200,000 Michiganders who will be flying during the holiday period to monitor the weather across the country. Bad weather in other parts of the country could disrupt flight schedules across the U.S.
AAA predicts more than 3.3 million Michiganders will be on the road between now and New Year's Day.
Michigan gas prices are running slightly below the national average.
GasBuddy.com’s Patrick DeHaan says a price spike in Michigan last week has faded.
“Most stations went up to $2.49, that was about a 10-cent increase,” says DeHaan, “but since then prices statewide are back down to $2.43, which is basically what they were a week ago. And now they continue trend lower.”
Michigan’s average price per gallon of regular unleaded is still running about 30 cents higher than a year ago. DeHaan says gas prices reflect the nation’s economy, which is doing better than it was a year ago.
AAA predicts Thursday will be the busiest travel day during the Christmas holidays.
