New film sheds light on Ann Arbor homeless community

Viviana Pernot

You might have heard of Camp Take Notice, the tent city in Ann Arbor that was forced to close nearly three years ago.

VivianaPernot has made a short documentary film about that homeless community and the non-profit group that helps them.

Pernot's short film called “The M.I.S.S.I.O.N.” was part of her senior thesis for the University of Michigan’s Stamps School of Art and Design.

"They said the hardest thing about being homeless is just completely being ignored by the common person walking by them."

MISSION stands for Michigan Itinerant Shelter System-Interdependent Out of Necessity. Pernot said she hopes her film helps change the negative perception people have about homelessness. She'd like to see more people get involved and help in any way.

"Some of these people are just so unlucky, but they're trying to hard to get back up on their feet and it's just heartbreaking."
