Thursday, Michigan reported its highest single daily COVID-19case number since May.
State health officials reported 543 new confirmed coronavirus caseson Thursday. It’s a big jump in daily numbers over recent weeks. It’s the biggest single day increase since May 29.
There has been rising concerns about potential COVID-19 hot spots around the state.
In one case, a hair stylist at a Bay City barbershop may have exposed more than 70 people to COVID-19.
The county health department says the stylist developed symptoms while working at the Great American Man Cave between June 23 and June 30.
“We’ve actually heard from quite a few concerned individuals that called in,” says Joel Strasz, Bay County’s health officer. "Many of them had obtained services during those times.”
Strasz expects people getting tested will have to wait until Saturday at the earliest, or after the Fourth of July holiday weekend, to get results.
Health officials around the state are urging Michiganders to wear masks and observe social distancing during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
In another precaution, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer this week imposed a ban on indoor bar service in much of lower Michigan.
